My why is personal.
I know what it looks like when someone loses everything — and then, against all odds, earns their way back.
My mother lost custody of my brother and me when we were young, and eventually all parental rights. For years, addiction kept her away. But she did the work. She got sober. And when our world fell apart in ways none of us expected, she was there — stable, present, ready to give us the solid ground she hadn't been able to before. She swooped in during chaos and has never stopped showing up since.
I am proud to say that through adult adoption, she is back on my birth certificate. A right that was completely stripped away — restored.
That is what recovery makes possible.
New Directions for Women makes second chapters possible — for mothers, for families, for the people waiting on the other side of someone's hardest fight.
